The hot and cold inlets of the Ultra A3033 thermostatic cartridge is reversible. It comes in handy if the hot and cold supply is plumbed the wrong way around. The replacement cartridge has three O-rings preventing water from dripping out of the valve.

Common Indicators
There are performance lapses that indicate the Ultra A3033 thermostatic cartridge is about to, or has already, gone faulty. These include:

– shower valve outputs only one temperature;
– water temperature fluctuates between hot and cold;
– the handle offers resistance to turning;
– leaking from the temperature control handle;
– noises or rattling sounds when the shower is on.

If the Ultra A3033 has weak water flow it could be the thermostatic cartridge or the flow cartridge (SVR21) that is faulty.

Ultra A3033 Thermostatic Cartridge Replacement Tips
– Pop the white temperature indicator out to access the screw holding the handle.

– Because the Ultra 3033 thermostatic cartridge is a non-threaded cartridge there is no need to unscrew the faulty part out of the shower. A retaining nut locks the thermostatic cartridge in. Unscrew the retaining nut and pull the cartridge out.

– Grease the O-rings of the replacement Ultra 3033 thermostatic cartridge and insert it in the valve. There is a small protrusion on the brown part of the cartridge (please see the first photo, right-hand side). Make sure this small part sits in its corresponding slot in the shower valve.
