It is the external temperature control handle used on the thermostat side of the trim and should not be confused with the separate thermostatic cartridge, flow cartridge or diverter cartridge used inside the valve.
This handle is used to adjust the selected mixed-water temperature on the shower valve. Replace it when the original handle is damaged, missing, marked incorrectly, loose on the control spindle, or no longer gives reliable hand control of the thermostat setting.
