Investigating Kitchen Tap Leaks: Does Your Tap Cartridge Need to be Replaced?
Leaks from a faucet may come from its spout or from some other inconspicuous place. It may be caused by dilapidated O-rings or a damaged cartridge. If you notice or suspect water is seeping from your tap, look into these three areas around your kitchen sink fixture:
A small leak from a tap’s spout might seem trivial. But over time, the leak tends to worsen. There are several causes connected to a leaking spout. One cause is a damaged washer; another is high pressure in the plumbing system. To remedy the situation, the compression valve has to be replaced or reduce the water pressure.
Base of the Tap
Even an insignificant amount of water pooling on the circumference of the faucet base is a sign of leakage around this area. The leak happens when the faucet is in use and a worn out O-ring could be the reason. If changing the O-ring does not work, it may be necessary to change the tap’s cartridge.
Under the Sink
Since leaks originating from under the kitchen sink drips onto the floor, it can be detrimental to a home’s flooring. To identify the source of the leakage, check the connections of the water supply pipes, tubes, and valves. Once the source is spotted, tighten the fitments to put an end to the leak. In case the leak persists, the supply tube, the shut-off valve, or the tap itself needs to be replaced.
