Cartridges and shower units are shaped differently, materials used differ, measurements vary. Generally, there are two types of shower cartridges, just as there are two types of shower valves. For shower cartridges, there is the compression washer cartridge and the ceramic disc cartridge. Shower units are commonly in the configuration of an exposed valve or a recessed type.

The Crosswater SPACW0013 cartridge is a thermostatic cartridge with a push-fit fitment for installation. Hard water sediments are less inclined to adhere to the ceramic core found inside the barrel of the cartridge.

Recessed, or concealed, valves are built behind the wall of a shower space. A wall depth of at least ten centimeters is necessary to fit the unit in. Is the SPACW0013 the Cartridge You Need for Shower Rapair?

Knowing the size of the valve, whether it is a 1/2 inch BSP or a 3/4 inch BSP is as important as measuring the cartridge itself.

To ascertain if the Crosswater SPACW0013 is the right replacement part for the thermostatic cartridge utilized by your shower unit, first remove the old cartridge from the valve housing then measure it.

- Establish the total length of the cartridge with the use of a line gauge or a measuring tape.

- Measure the headnut section of the cartridge.

- If the cartridge has threads on it, it is a screw-in cartridge. The correct replacement part should also come with threads. Without the threads, the fitment is a push-fit and the replacement cartridge should be the same.

- Spline count is vital in determining whether the part will be right for your shower unit, so, count the splines to make sure it will snuggly fit with the control handle.
