Ideal Standard H960170NU is a ceramic flow-control cartridge, also known as a valve headpart. This is the clockwise-opening version, which closes anticlockwise.

The cartridge controls the water flow through the valve rather than providing thermostatic temperature regulation. Persistent dripping from a shower head or tap spout after the control is turned off can indicate a flow cartridge that is no longer sealing correctly.
