Are you talkin’ to me?

Whether you want to know your weight or just can’t face it in the morning, there is no escape with the Superior Talking Scale.

When you step onto the scale the euphoric voice tells you your weight and even if its not what you expect you wont care, as the female voice lulls you in an understanding manner. But if your spouse is in the next room the voice can be turned off with a conveniently placed switch underneath the contraption. The much larger than average scale screen makes it easier to read your weight if the voice starts to irritate.

But is the scale truly superior? You may ask. And the answer is a definite yes! It is accurate to within 1% of actual weight, and weighs up to 400 lbs (or 200 kg) in 0.2 lb increments. Its platform measures 14.5 x 11 inches and has ridged squares to stop you slipping.

Now, not only is this made for you lazy few but it will make it easier for the visually impaired or even the blind. It’s a product which should have been made long ago, but if you’re up for a bit of novelty fun this product is certainly for you.

The Finnish Secret!

Saunas have long been used in Scandinavia and are still considered a staple in everyday life. It is estimated that there are more saunas in Finland than there are television sets. The population of Finland is approximately 5.25 million (2005), therefore there is one sauna for every 2.6 people. When you contemplate this fact, it is quite evident how important saunas are in the Finnish culture. Why is it then, that these wooden houses are so popular, and why do the Finns hold them in such high esteem?

Saunas trigger the body to heat up, and sweat. This has two main benefits. Firstly, this heat causes the body to excrete toxins which build up in the body. Secondly, the high heat, which ranges from 80°C to 100°C, artificially triggers the body’s immune system into thinking a foreign virus has taken a hold of it. The body then releases antibodies and white blood cells to combat this virus. As a result the body’s immune system is strengthened, helping to ward off any future viral attack.

Without going into a full article on this, I challenge you to try a sauna (after given the all clear from your medical doctor of course), and see if you don’t feel like a million pounds afterwards.

Recycling water can save you money!

It’s interesting to think that approximately 30% of the water we use goes down the toilet. Wouldn’t it be great if we could re-use the water from our showers, baths, sinks and cleaning for the flush? Thanks to BRAC Systems a solution is available for all households. Using state of the art technology, specialist filters take used water from your shower, bath, or washing machine and then reuses it in the toilets flushing system.

Foreign particles are filtered from the water making it usable just like normal water, but its designed to be used strictly for your toilet or garden hose! It’s nice to think that you could re-use the same water over and over again without having to pay each time! On top of that, you’ll be helping the environment by using less water in your household!

See how you could save money on your water bill by heading over to BRAC systems today – – Systems start at just £900!

Clever Camping Contraption!

Camping is often associated with tents, the great outdoors, and campfires. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea due to the lack of luxury one can expect, but solar power is bringing a whole new scenario to consider. Imagine arriving back to base camp after a long hike around the neighbouring hills to a solar-powered outdoor shower?

Solar-powered Outdoor Shower

Manufacturers claim this clever contraption is capable of heating 5.5 gallons of water to a refreshing 60º celsius, after just 2 hours on a sunny day (leave a few more hours charging time for a cloudy day!).  Better still the solar-powered outdoor shower is fully transportable, so taking it from A to B shouldn’t prove to be too much of a chore. Maybe its time for all of us to reconsider our holiday destinations and keep camping a definite possibility!

IPHE moves to Royal Charter

Upgrading our homes heating systems, or installing new bathroom suites we all know is a task best left to the professionals. There is a sense of weariness about bringing a trader into the equation with popular TV shows such as ‘Rogue Traders‘ teaching us to be aware of the fallacious con men that crawl our communities. Finding a trustworthy, qualified individual can sometimes be a difficult task, but thanks to the CIPHE it’s a little easier for the rest of us.

Chartered status has been awarded to the CIPHE, the professional body for plumbing and heating, by the Privy council for their contribution to the health and safety of the public and the environment. Their website provides an invaluable service in which members of the public can type in their postcode to find their nearest qualified engineer.

So if your planning to change your water system, or even install a new shower, consider finding a trader one less thing to do on your list.

Self cleaning bathroom anyone?

It’s not a surprise that the weekly bathroom clean has become somewhat of a chore to many of us. Thanks to Rose Amal & the Particles and Catalysts Research Group, University of New South Wales the days of sprays and scrubbing may be a thing of the past.

With the use of Nanotechnology, this new coating can be applied to any surface. It will contain particles with an oxidizing ability stronger than chlorine bleach.

This new super coating contains modified particles of titanium dioxide, which are doped with other cations like iron or vanadium and anions like oxygen, nitrogen or carbon. The oxidising properties also mean fungus cannot grow on the surface. And because the coating is hydrophobic – it does not like water – the water simply slides away carrying any dirt with it, rather than gathering as droplets.

More development is required to bring it to the marketplace, but the stage is set for fast progress.

Don’t go throwing away the Marigolds just yet!
