Steam therapy to cure sinusitis – Daily Mail

A towel and a bowl of steaming water may be a more effective way to tackle sinusitis than drugs. In a new trial, up to 300 patients will use inhalation to treat a condition that is often tackled with antibiotics. It comes in the wake of research showing that the amount of patients who recovered in ten days was about the same, whether they took an antibiotic or a placebo.

Steam & Bowel

Acute sinusitis – inflammation of the linings of the sinuses – affects up to five per cent of adults. Symptoms include headaches, sore face and a blocked nose. In the trial, at Southampton University, researchers will compare steam inhalation and nasal irrigation, where patients flush 150ml of saline through each nostril daily for six months. The hot steam is thought to help clear the airways, which improves breathing and mucus flow.

Infrared Saunas Good for Chronic Heart Failure

Are far-infrared saunas beneficial for patients suffering from chronic heart failure (CHF)? There have been many claims over the years about many miracle cures to health issues such as chronic heart failure, however not all of these declarations have been backed up by factual scientific evidence.

It is critically important that all claims are tested under controlled scientific environments from unbiased, none commercial institutions, as many corporate companies are willing to make unsubstantiated claims, or bend the truth in order to gain a sale.

A recent controlled scientific test has been conducted by the Department of Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Metabolic Medicine, Graduated School of Medicine, Kagoshima University in Japan, in an effort to test whether or not ‘Waon Therapy’ using a far-infrared sauna is effective in treating chronic heart failure (CHF). A sample of 188 patients were selected: from those 188 patients, 112 were grouped to be treated with infrared sauna Waon therapy and the other 76 grouped to be treated with conventional methods.

The infrared sauna therapy group used the sauna once a day for 15 minutes and were then kept in a blanket after the sauna session for an additional 30 minutes. This was repeated daily for 14 days. The conventional treatment group was also tested for two weeks with standard methods used for treating chronic heart failure.

What is Waon Therepy?

Waon therapy is simply increasing the core body temperature by approximately 1.0~1.2°C in an effort to help soothe, and in some cases heal the body from its ailment(s).

Heart Failure Facts (United Kingdom)

  • Based on a survey of heart failure management in general practice, there was an average of 8.3 cases of heart failure per 1000 population.
  • Heart failure is very age dependent, with 0.2 cases per 1000 for those under the age of 35, while there are 125 cases per 1000 for those aged 85 or older.
  • The prevailance of heart disease doubles for every decade of aging.

ResultsBefore and after the treatment, all patients were measured with the following: NYHA functional classification, Chest Radiography, Echocardiography and Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP). The results were very positive, where the infrared sauna Waon therapy group showed ‘significant improvements’ in all the aforementioned tests. The conclusion of the research showed that, ‘Waon therapy is an innovative and promising therapy for patients with CHF.’For the full article, please visit: http://www.divapor.com/sauna-articles/sauna-therapy-chronic-heart-failure.php

Infrared Sauna Therapy Success!

Infrared Sauna Therapy Successful in Helping Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients

New research from The Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands has shown that infrared saunas reduce pain in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) sufferers.

A group of seventeen patients with rheumatoid arthritis and a group of seventeen patients suffering with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) underwent infrared sauna for a period of 4 weeks, with a series of 8 infrared sauna treatments.

The infrared was well tolerated among the patients, with no exacerbation of the disease and no side effects. The improvements in the patient’s conditions were statistically significant. Stiffness and pain decreased clinically (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001 in RA and AS patients, respectively) during the infrared sauna sessions. Fatigue also decreased in the patients, while none of the patients felt uncomfortable during the infrared sauna sessions.

In conclusion, The Saxion University of Applied Sciences said;

‘Infrared treatment has statistically significant short-term beneficial effects and clinically relevant period effects during treatment in RA and AS patients without enhancing disease activity. IR has good tolerability and no adverse effects.’

Solare Carbonwave – A new way to unwind.

Di Vapor have unveiled a new range of far infrared saunas to the ever growing Di Vapor catalogue. Infrared saunas have been part of the Di Vapor range for sometime now, but a different technology used in the heaters themselves makes this range a little more special.

The new Solare range takes advantage of the latest Carbonwave infrared sauna heaters which have been proven to be more efficient raising your core body temperature, whilst costing very little to run. Di Vapor states:

“Each carbon heater uses carefully selected raw materials, which create a highly efficient infrared sauna with low and even surface temperatures across the heater. The large surface area of the heaters means more infrared heat is emitted resulting in a fast heating time. The heaters are positioned along the left, right and rear walls, calf and floor areas.”

Each cabin also comes complete with a Blaupunkt stereo system that supports FM radio and CD, so you listen to your favourite calming melodies whilst sweating the toxins away. With an array of sizes to suit all needs, affordability and options in both Basswood and Cedar wood its understandable why these cabins are fast becoming the next best thing.

The Finnish Secret!

Saunas have long been used in Scandinavia and are still considered a staple in everyday life. It is estimated that there are more saunas in Finland than there are television sets. The population of Finland is approximately 5.25 million (2005), therefore there is one sauna for every 2.6 people. When you contemplate this fact, it is quite evident how important saunas are in the Finnish culture. Why is it then, that these wooden houses are so popular, and why do the Finns hold them in such high esteem?

Saunas trigger the body to heat up, and sweat. This has two main benefits. Firstly, this heat causes the body to excrete toxins which build up in the body. Secondly, the high heat, which ranges from 80°C to 100°C, artificially triggers the body’s immune system into thinking a foreign virus has taken a hold of it. The body then releases antibodies and white blood cells to combat this virus. As a result the body’s immune system is strengthened, helping to ward off any future viral attack.

Without going into a full article on this, I challenge you to try a sauna (after given the all clear from your medical doctor of course), and see if you don’t feel like a million pounds afterwards.
